Boomu is covered elsewhere on this site as accommodation (see Boomu Women's Group Bandas and Boomu Community Campsite), but the community experience itself stands on its own as a genuine cultural attraction, open to day visitors as well as overnight guests. The cooperative — around 40 local women from the villages of Kihaguzi and Kigaragara — built this as a tourism project specifically to fund school fees and reduce poverty in the surrounding community.
A guided village walk, cooking demonstrations using fresh, garden-grown ingredients, and craft weaving (with the chance to buy handmade baskets directly from the makers) are the core of the experience. It's a genuinely hands-on, participatory visit rather than a passive performance — you're welcomed into an active working community rather than watching a staged show.
Every visit here — whether an overnight stay or a day visit — puts income directly into the local cooperative rather than a commercial operator, making it one of the more transparent community-tourism experiences in the Murchison Falls area.
